I'm melting.......

Dec 9th
Nixon's mini-snowman
Day 343

* Nixon was awake today when I found out his school day was cancelled. School wasn't cancelled, just delayed but because of the delay, his morning part-time preschool class was cancelled. I asked if he wanted to do what you always do on a snow day: go back to bed, but he said no.
I made him a sheet-tent in his room, set him up with his PSP in the tent in his room.

* When we came downstairs for the day, his very first question was "Mommy, what's my snowman look like today?". I opened the door and we looked. He was melting but not too bad. He looked pretty much exactly like he looked when I saw it at 1am before going to be (the picture above).
He didn't get to look at his snowman before bed tonight, but right now it's not looking pretty. But the plus side is, we're expecting 2-6 inches of snow tomorrow, so there's a chance Nixon will get a real snowman in the next day or two!

missing his head, floating eyes and nose, but the scarf is still on!

Snow day = Happy day, if you are Nixon.

* In Target today, Nixon and I walked by a baby who was crying in the cart. Nixon says to me "Mommy, why is that baby so upset?" like I'm magically supposed to know why every child in the world is upset. I tell him I don't know and he says back to me, as serious as he could "Mommy, we should try to make that baby smile. It's not happy when it's crying and today should be a happy day. It's snowing outside!"
The women walking behind us were laughing as Nixon explained this reasoning!

A return visit from Captain Obvious

* Out running errands today, it started wet sloppy snowing. Nixon's seen snow and played in it but hasn't ever been outside in it while it was snowing heavily. I took him to the car while Mac paid for our items and it was pretty ugly outside. Nixon was all disgusted as I was buckling him in his carseat telling me "Mommy, this snow is getting me all wet and cold. It's not pretty at all!" I laughed and told him "I know baby, sometimes snow is just a big mess." He says "Crap on a stick mom, it's getting my chips wet. This is not fun at all."
Guess he's as over snow as I am. haha Well, I grew up outside of Buffalo, New York and spent 20 plus winters there, he's in his first winter. I think he'll get over it and love it again next time it's not ruining the bag of chips he was enjoying :) He gets that from his daddy.

this was right before I had to "wrestle" with my sleeping child, to keep his fingers out of his mouth! It's a helluva struggle to break him of this habit and he's terrible at it in his sleep. I won, tonight, this one round...it's a small victory, but one I'm quite proud of!

It's SNOW!!

* Nixon has not ever played in snow. Until today that is:

* The family ran a few errands this afternoon, in the cold (cut us some slack, this is our first winter in below 50 degree weather in 4 years...so yes, it's cold!). Mac and Nixon had been singing in the car, but when it came time to walk outside, Mac was the only one singing. Nixon says "Dad, can you please stop? It's too cold and I'm trying to walk here."

Probably dreaming of more snow for snowballs...winter's just begun, my son, there will be more!
